Healthy Eating Made Fun - For Kids
How many times have you found yourself wondering that it would be great if, for once, your children ate their green veggies and not just leave them on the plate?
It goes without saying that good nutrition is crucial through all stages of life, especially with youngsters. All the vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients are important for their mind and body's healthy and happy development. However, most parents cannot find a solution on how to bring healthy foods closer to their children.
Of course, if you are here, that means you have been looking for a way to incorporate this and get your kids to eat nutritiously rich foods. So today, we are sharing a few foolproof tips on making healthy eating fun and more enjoyable!
Make a healthier version of a popular dish.
Take pizza as an example – you don’t need to eliminate it from your children’s menu, simply make a healthier version of it. If it is a popular choice, we urge you to seek alternatives. Get a whole-wheat dough and spread as many healthy ingredients as you can on top of it. You may not get it right the first few times, but don’t be afraid to experiment until you do! Plus, keep in mind that you need to have patience with every meal you prepare – it takes 10-15 times for children to start appreciating the flavors!
Colors matter.
Have plenty of colors on the plate when you prepare food for your children. An abundance of veggies and fruits can help you achieve that. Carrots, tomatoes, grapes, watermelon, apricots, broccoli – let your imagination run wild and sneak in a green veggie in there too. Think of the plate as a picture and paint the most colorful one!
Prepare a healthy snack station.
Every household has its snack station. Usually, it is filled with a lot of unhealthy snacks. Change this today for a better tomorrow! Throw out all the snacks that are high in salt and sugar, and have zero nutritional value and replace them with healthy ones. This is a big milestone to achieve in your nutritious eating pursuit. Think baby carrots, clementines, turkey jerky, string cheese, and sliced apples – all of these are great snacks without making your children load up on food.
Include them in the process.
If you have a garden, however big or small, get some seeds and start digging! When you sow a few ingredients with them, you include them in the process and familiarize them with the subject of food. It is the healthiest approach. They get to nurture the plants and watch how fresh produce grows. After that, allow them to choose how to incorporate that into their meals.
Get Creative.
Don’t be afraid to play around with food, give your children the freedom to express their creativity by making their meals with the ingredients you provide them. Playing with food may have been frowned upon in the past, but now it is considered an excellent outlet and a channel through which kids indulge in healthy eating.
Be the inspiration your children need and open a door that leads to healthy eating. Once you plant the seed of love toward healthy food in their hearts, you have done a terrific job!
